Regulations and instructions

Suomenlinna is a national monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Approximately one million people visit the area every year. Suomenlinna is also a district of Helsinki and home to 800 inhabitants. The land and water area of Suomenlinna belong to the state and are administered by the Governing Body of Suomenlinna, operating under the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Suomenlinna is protected by laws and decrees. According to the World Heritage Convention, the state is obliged to maintain Suomenlinna as part of our world heritage. The Suomenlinna regulations include provisions from the Antiquities Act, the Public Order Act, and the Nature Conservation Decree, as well as orders which the Governing Body of Suomenlinna, as the landowner in charge of managing the area, has been entitled and obliged to issue.

Events and functions may not be organised and canopies, structures or task points may not be erected in Suomenlinna without the landowner’s permission. The Governing Body of Suomenlinna has a separate set of instructions for event organisers and for filming.
