The sea fortress, founded in 1748, is one of the most popular sights in Finland with around one million visitors annually.

HOW TO GET THERE

Enjoy the sea

Suomenlinna is only accessible by water. There is a ferry service throughout the year, and a water bus service in the summer. The trip gives an excellent opportunity to enjoy the scenery and photograph Helsinki from the sea.

Follow the blue route

Suomenlinna is meant to be seen on foot. The main route runs across the fortress through the most important sights. The main route is marked with blue signs and indicated on the maps with a blue line.

Six kilometres of walls, 100 cannons, exciting tunnels, beautiful parks... Suomenlinna has something for everyone.

Six museums

There are six museums in Suomenlinna. One of them is the submarine Vesikko that was used during the Second World War.

Enjoy the restaurants and cafés

There are 11 restaurants and cafés in the fortress. Many of them serve visitors all year round.

HISTORY COMES TO LIFE

Journey to the past

Guided walking tours cover the eventful history of the fortress and its main sights. From June to August guided tours are organised daily in Finnish, Swedish, English and Russian.

The story of Suomenlinna

A short film about the history of the fortress is shown every half hour in the Suomenlinna Museum. The film is available in eight languages: Finnish, Swedish, English, Russian, German, French, Spanish and Japanese.
